May 2023
Hi!
I had a really nice May. May be you did too 😛
This has been an interesting month. For the last few months, I was feeling a little bit of an imbalance in personal work and professional work. I was having a conversation with a friend of mine late April and he said that he can use some help on a film project that he is working on. So I started working with the production management side of a film. As time goes on I am sure it will ramp up, but it was really fascinating and honestly intellectually rejuvenating to get into a project and be able to catch on to things so quickly. Apparently, a lot of film production management closely resembles product management. I’ve also started helping on creating reference sheets and such and it’s just such a fun part of my day.
Charu released a new game last month which is honestly pretty addictive and fun, that you can check out here: https://charutak.itch.io/chronoline
And now that she is done with that we are focusing our efforts back on to the GPT game. I am going to try and post much more regular devlogs about it, but probably divide it in some way so that it is easier for me to keep track of what we are making. As our game has shifted from something we thought can be made in a week or two to something that we are on the 3rd or 4th month of making, the way we are approaching it has changed quite a bit. Of course, the degree of refinement you expect from something that is going to be finished in a week is very different from something that you’re spending a few months on. And as we transition from making something quick to something deeper, we’ve had to adjust our expectations too.
I’ve also been trying to learn a lot more about sales and marketing, and trying to understand how I can put myself out there more in a real way. And talk about things that I have made/contributed to. As someone who comes from a very “building” mindset it is very tempting to fall into the trap of “I just need to make more things”, and I’m learning to get out of it and get more into a space of sales and marketing are different than product. Not less or more useful, but skills that I also need to learn.
My podcast with Kahran “Thinking on thinking” finished 2 seasons!!! 20 episodes!! OMG, that is a LOT. I mean of course there are podcasts that are way longer and have been going for years, but I am really proud of how we have grown and how much our process has smoothened out. Super excited for the new season.
Lastly, I started experimenting with pyrography. It’s where you make art by burning wood using a hot tool, kind of like a soldering iron. Pyrography is quite different from the other art forms I practice. As someone who is a fan of making things fast, learning, and quickly growing from it, pyrography goes against my usual process. It is slow and methodical and requires a lot of patience, and it has been interesting to just give myself that space, to let myself be patient. I am super excited to see what all I can make with it.
See you next month!
